Saturday nights in Dearborn have a certain rhythm. The smell of fresh baklava drifting from the pastry shops, the low hum of conversation in Arabic and English, the occasional burst of laughter from a corner café. Last weekend, I found myself at Galata Sweets on Mason Street for their Oud Night. I hadn't planned on staying long, just a quick stop for Turkish coffee and maybe a piece of kadayif. But then the oud player started, and the whole room went quiet in that way that only live music can manage. No one was scrolling on their phone. No one was in a rush. Just people sitting together, listening, letting the evening stretch out.
