Galata navê berê yê taxa Karaköy a Stenbolê ye, ku li qeraxa bakurê Çiyayê Zêrîn e. Navçe bi çend pirên ku ji Çiyayê Zêrîn derbas dibin, bi navçeya dîrokî ya Fatihê ve girêdayî ye, ya herî berbiçav jî Pira Galatayê ye. Keleha Galatayê ya serdema navîn di navbera salên 1273 û 1453an de koloniyeke Komara Cenova bû.
Bircê Galatayê yê navdar di sala 1348an de ji aliyê Cenovîyan ve li xala herî bakur û herî bilind a kelehê hatiye çêkirin. Galatayê niha taxeke navçeya Beyoğlu ya Stenbolê ye.
